Gender Roles

gender roles parenting send

I have 3 boys and 1 girl. I’m interested in gender equality and woman’s rights. I’m interested in the unspoken work that women take on in society.

This is just an observation of mine and I’m interested in any feedback.

Within Send Family Instincts we predominantly (and by that I mean almost exclusively) work with mothers.

I am not saying I don’t communicate with men. I currently have 2 fathers on my caseload, leading their child’s case, but out of thousands of families, honestly there have been only around 10 men who have used our free or paid service.

This is interesting to me. It’s interesting because of all the gaslighting that goes on towards women who fight for their child’s education. They are told they are over reacting, overly demanding, conflict driven, irrational, mad...

Would this happen if this was men demanding opportunities for their offspring? Do professionals see mothers as easy targets? Has a culture been built up where mothers appear easier to ignore and patronise.

There is so much about this system which is toxic and narcissistic. Professionals doing what they want, ignoring rule, ignoring the importance of opportunity . Committing disability discrimination and causing the oppression of so many young lives.

The women we support often work as well as bring up the children and fight the system... I wonder are they just the scribe? Are they getting support in this exhausting battle from the men in their lives? Is there someone behind the scenes?

Women feel they have to apologise for being emotional or for saying they can’t cope anymore but would this be the same if I spoke to thousands of men instead of women? Would they apologise for the huge injustice? The life threatening mistakes being made.

So.. Is SEND a woman’s issue? Do we generally fight this alone.

The numbers are so stacked in this situation thousands of mums versus ten dads in our case.

Or is it just that I mostly only deal with mothers because I work through social media?
